Current CIHR-funded research: Dr. Cornelia Wieman at the University of Toronto is helping to change the face of Aboriginal research and health care in Canada. As Canada's first female Aboriginal psychiatrist and a member of CIHR's Governing Council, Dr. Wieman is part of a CIHR-funded team that is creating an Ontario-wide research alliance with Aboriginal communities and organizations, academic institutions and government agencies.

Together, they are training more students for a career in Aboriginal health research, expanding outreach to northern Ontario and promoting community-based research in the fields of chronic disease prevention, mental health, health services and policy, indigenous knowledge and research ethics.
