The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), in collaboration with Pen Computer Systems, has launched the Clinical Audit Tool (CAT) website; http://www.clinicalaudit.com.au. The CAT website was developed to provide CAT users with a new and exciting one-stop-shop where GPs, practice managers and practice nurses can access information, support and advice about the CAT software and how to use it in general practice.

"The Clinical Audit Tool is a computer software package designed to enable practices to look at their practice population as a whole. This information can be used in a variety of ways, from simply getting to know the demographics of your population through to identifying areas for attention or targeting consumer information. It can also be used to streamline practice accreditation processes," said Dr Chris Mitchell, RACGP President, and GP in Northern NSW.

"There is a lot of information about CAT available, and with the launch of the CAT website we are providing GPs, practice managers and practice nurses with a resource centre where they can access important information in one place," said Dr Mitchell.

The RACGP recognises that there are substantial opportunities for general practitioners and practice teams to use aggregated information such as for more consistent individual patient care, understanding the needs of the practice's population, business improvement and including the provision of new services. The RACGP has reviewed a range of tools and supports the Clinical Audit Tool as it is easy to use, timely and useful. Furthermore the tool is standards compliant.

Currently CAT is compatible with Medical Director 2, Medical Director 3, Genie and Best Practice. Pen Computer Systems is currently working towards compatibility with other practice software systems.

For more information, including access to a free 14 day trial of the CAT, visit http://www.clinicalaudit.com.au. General practices in divisions who do not offer CAT can now join up with a practice subscription to directly receive the software.
