DePuy Mitek, Inc., a leading orthopaedics sports medicine company, announced that all of its QUICKANCHOR® Plus suture anchors for small joint repair are now available pre-loaded with ORTHOCORD®. ORTHOCORD is the only high-strength, partially absorbable orthopedic suture on the market designed to provide a supple solution for soft tissue fixation while maintaining strength and knot security. The QUICKANCHOR Plus small joint suture anchors with ORTHOCORD include the MINI, MINILOK™, MICRO and MICROFIX™ product families.

"DePuy Mitek's small joint anchors with ORTHOCORD offer an excellent combination of size and strength, particularly for delicate procedures in tight anatomies," said Ian Lawson, Worldwide President of DePuy Mitek, Inc. "Since ORTHOCORD is partially absorbable, the knot mass will minimize over time, to help it become less palpable to the patient. Our market leading small joint anchors, now available with ORTHOCORD, allow for multiple points of fixation and the restoration of the natural footprint. They are the ideal solution for surgeons who are looking to optimize repair strength, security and patient satisfaction."

ORTHOCORD suture is made of a proprietary material comprised of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, which provides 55 pounds of tensile strength and 30 pounds of knot strength and PDS (Polydioxanone), which provides a softer, more flexible suture that is 45 percent less stiff than other high strength sutures and minimizes postoperative knot mass.(1) Since its launch in 2005, ORTHOCORD has been used in more than one million orthopedic procedures.

DePuy Mitek's QUICKANCHOR Plus small joint anchors range in diameter from 1.3mm to 2.7mm. The Micro and Mini anchors are made of a titanium alloy with nitinol arcs for additional pullout strength. The MINILOK and MICROFIX anchors are made of radiolucent PLA (Polylactic Acid), offering fully absorbable implant options.

The MINILOK and Mini Anchors, which are used in hand, wrist, foot and ankle procedures, are now available preloaded with #0 or #2/0 ORTHOCORD. The MICROFIX and Micro Anchors, now available preloaded with #3/0 or #4/0 ORTHOCORD, are designed for hand and craniofacial surgery.
