First year pharmacy students from Brighton University have completed the NPA 'University' Interact course. Students, who received 93% or over on the Interact course, were awarded with certificates at a prize ceremony on Monday 18 May.

Evangelia Papakonstantinou, Pharmacy First Year Student at Brighton University said: "For me the most important part of the course was the development of our communication skills. 'University' Interact has given me a good grounding for working in a pharmacy - knowledge which you cannot learn from lectures and practicals."

Ashley Dann, Pharmacy First Year Student at Brighton University said: "The course has familiarised me with the names of everyday over the counter medicines that the public will ask about. It has been interesting, useful and invaluable, especially as I have just heard I will be working at a pharmacy this summer."

Sukhjit Grewal, NPA Head of Education and Training said: "'University' Interact was designed for pharmacy students who will have a role in supplying medicines in community pharmacy. Here at Brighton University, the course has demonstrated that it really helps students understand front line pharmacy."

Angela Macadam, Principal Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice, Brighton University said: "The University Interact course has been a huge success. The students have engaged very positively with the material and feel more confident when they take up their summer vacation jobs shortly."

Notes

The NPA Interact Course for Medicines Counter Assistants (University Interact) was adapted as a part of the undergraduate teaching for first year pharmacy students at Brighton University - a UK first. The theory learned at University will ease entry into the world of pharmacy when students apply their knowledge in term time placements and summer jobs.

University Interact was designed for pharmacy students who will have a role in supplying medicines in community pharmacy. It provides a sound base for helping students understand front line pharmacy.
