The Scottish Government is launching Better Diabetes Care - a consultation to improve diabetes care over the next three years - Diabetes UK Scotland is encouraging everyone to take part.
This week will see the start of a three month period of talking and listening to people living with diabetes about their experiences of diabetes care and their priorities for the future.
"Diabetes is changing in Scotland. Increasing numbers of people are being diagnosed earlier in life; this means that getting it right at diagnosis or when complications develop will become ever more important.'' said Jane-Claire Judson, Director of Diabetes UK Scotland.
"Since 2002, Scotland has responded to the challenges of diabetes through, first, the Scottish Diabetes Framework and then the Diabetes Action Plan. Better Diabetes Care is an opportunity to bring this work fully up to date. Diabetes UK Scotland will be consulting widely across Scotland about the direction that diabetes services should take in Scotland."
Diabetes UK Scotland is taking a lead in the consultation process. An online survey form is available (from http://www.diabetes.org.uk/scotland ) and meetings are being held across the country to encourage people living with diabetes to respond to the consultation.
The results of the consultation process will be fed in to the development of a new action plan for diabetes in Scotland.
