The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is pleased to announce a new non-executive member to its Board. Andy McKeon replaces Mark Taylor who stood down in April. Andy is Managing Director Health at the Audit Commission and is responsible for all the Commission's work in the NHS and on health matters. Prior to that he was Director of Policy and Planning at the Department of Health (DH) with oversight of the policy agenda for the reform and improvement of health and social care. This also included responsibility for target setting and for the associated planning and reporting systems. His post also covered all aspects of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy and the clinical and cost effective use of medicines in the NHS.
NICE is also pleased to announce the reappointment of Mercy Jeyasingham, MBE, as non-executive member to its Board for a further two-year term. Mercy is a management consultant, trainer and interim manager and has held senior posts in both the voluntary and public sector. She has also been an executive and non-executive board member of a number of national and local organisations. She is also a member of the fitness to practice committee of the General Optical Council, a trustee of Afiya (a national organisation addressing the health needs of black and minority ethnic communities), and was formerly a member of the Ministerial Advisory board for the Medicines Controls Agency.
Both appointments were made by the Appointments Commission, the independent organisation responsible, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health, for appointing chairs and non-executive directors to NHS organisations.
