Heritage Place, a UPMC Senior Community, has been awarded Activity Department of the Year for 2009 by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
The award recognizes excellence in the delivery of activities services to the elderly population. The Heritage Place activity professionals work together to enhance the quality of life for residents by meeting their needs and interests in a person-centered environment.
"It is amazing how our staff members go out of their way to make sure our residents' needs are met," said Kelly Covone-Henning, director of volunteer services and activity consultant interim. "They always make sure the residents are laughing and having a good time with whatever activity is going on, and they work together as a team."
The Heritage Place activities staff coordinates games, arts and crafts, sports, music and other entertainment for residents in an activity room that has computer access and a large-screen TV. Bowling is a favorite activity for ambulatory residents and those in wheelchairs. Residents also are provided with a newly decorated lounge, an outdoor patio and services to fulfill spiritual needs.
UPMC Senior Communities offer residents the finest in retirement living - a lifestyle that promotes health and wellness, eliminates the burdens of home ownership and offers security. With 16 independent, assisted living and skilled nursing options, more than 2,000 western Pennsylvania seniors reside in the UPMC Senior Communities. Each community provides wellness education programs and easy access to the world-class care of UPMC. The communities are staffed by experts whose focus is improving and enriching the lives of older adults so that they can stay active and independent.
