The American Society of Breast Disease will convene its third annual School of Oncoplastic Surgery, December 4-6, 2008, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Dallas-Frisco, Texas.

As course director and leading breast oncoplastic surgeon, Gail Lebovic, MD, notes "the course responds to the growing interest among breast surgeons in the field of oncoplastic surgery, which combines both the goals of successful cancer treatment and optimal aesthetic outcomes for women at this challenging point in their lives."

The unique weekend program will provide fundamental principles and techniques for state-of-the-art surgical management of breast disease through extensive hands-on experience, live model workshops, and case discussions.

Due to the intense, hands-on nature of the program, enrollment is limited. As Dr. Lebovic notes, "participating surgeons will gain real-time experience with minimally invasive biopsy techniques, perform interactive assessment using live models, and learn how to achieve complete oncologic tumor resection with the best possible aesthetic outcome. The program will focus on practical surgical techniques including pre-operative planning, skin markings and tissue resection.

Dr. Lebovic reminds potential participants that because the American Society of Breast Disease is committed to advancing integrated multidisciplinary breast care, the course will include sessions on mammography, MRI, and ultrasound; managing high risk patients; pathology and risk of recurrence; and delivering radiation therapy so that attending surgeons fully appreciate the interdisciplinary aspects of oncoplastic surgery.
