What: More than 100 chief medical officers and chief nursing officers from hospitals and health systems in 34 states will gather for a conference to discuss issues and solutions to improve patient safety, eliminate hospital-acquired conditions and reduce cost. Called Prevention Above All, the conference brings together these healthcare leaders to discuss real-life solutions to hospital-acquired conditions, including catheter-associated urinary tract infections, pressure ulcers and the newest discoveries in hand hygiene compliance.
Why: There is compelling evidence that eliminating the preventable complications that today harm millions of patients could save billions of dollars in our healthcare system -- and improve the care of patients.

Harvey Fineberg, MD, PhD, president of the Institute of Medicine, will discuss "The Impact of Comparative Effectiveness Research."
Trent Haywood, MD, JD, senior vice president and chief medical officer, VHA, Inc., will discuss "Social Practice: Improvement Through an Understanding of Clinical Context."
Didier Pittet, MD, MS, infection control program, University of Geneva Hospitals, Switzerland. He will discuss "Hand Hygiene Improvement Strategies."
Caroline Fife, MD, Associate Professor, Dept of Anesthesiology, University of Texas Medical School.
Kevin Yankowsky, JD, Partner, Health Law Litigation Group of Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP. Both Fife and Yankowsky will discuss "Legal Implications of Pressure Ulcers."
