ReachMD, a leading multi-media provider of advanced healthcare education and information, in partnership with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), crowned Dan Henderson, third year medical student at the University of Connecticut ReachMD's "Next Top Doc" and the winner of the ReachMD $5,000 Educational Scholarship. Henderson has competed in ReachMD's Next Top Doc game show, in which specially selected medical students from across the country competed in a tournament style contest on ReachMD's XM Satellite Radio Channel 160, over the last 15 weeks.
The national championships will air the week of August 17 and can be heard online at www.reachmd.com/nexttopdoc. Henderson competes with Nina Resetkova, third year medical student and MBA candidate from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.
The programming and physician-led editorial team at ReachMD developed the concept for the 'college bowl' style quiz show and built the content for the show in support of the company's mission to deliver world class medical education, information and communication to busy medical professionals. The contest questions covered a broad array of the demanding medical school curriculum and latest medical advances. ReachMD's Medical and Scientific Consultant, Danny Petrasek, MD, PhD, a member of the clinical faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, and author of numerous research and review articles, served as the Next Top Doc's host, while the studio audience was comprised of medical students and professionals.
"I am thrilled to be named ReachMD's 'Next Top Doc.' The competition was exhilarating and I was privileged to have been chosen as a participant," said Henderson. "Throughout the contest I witnessed the passion and intellect of my peers across the country. It was an honor to compete with them." Henderson is spending this year as an AMSA Health Justice Fellow at the AMSA national headquarters in Reston, Virginia.
"Our company is dedicated to providing the highest quality medical content to medical professionals and to helping medical professionals stay informed and educated. The Next Top Doc programming series has been a fantastic way to add an element of entertainment to the education process," said Gary Epstein, CEO of ReachMD. Epstein went on to say that "partnering with AMSA on the development and production of Next Top Doc allowed us to showcase just how impressive these young medical students are at the many medical colleges across the country. We are delighted to award Dan Henderson the title of "Next Top Doc", and the ReachMD $5,000 Educational Scholarship to enhance his education."
