ASCO, along with millions of Americans, mourns the passing of Senator Edward M. Kennedy after his courageous battle with brain cancer.

During his five decades of public service, Senator Kennedy was a champion for health care reform, sponsoring and passing a variety of legislative efforts to improve access to health care for all people in the United States. The recipient of ASCO's 2008 Public Service Award, Senator Kennedy spearheaded bipartisan legislation to fight the War on Cancer, to increase funding for cancer research, develop better treatments for people with cancer, regulate deadly tobacco products, and make effective therapies accessible and affordable to those in need.

The wisdom, leadership, and dedication of Senator Kennedy benefitted millions of Americans fighting cancer today. ASCO will work with leaders in Congress to help carry out his legacy and to provide hope to millions more in the future.
