This past weekend Canadian psychiatrists honoured their colleagues - psychiatrists, psychiatric residents and other exceptional individuals - for their contributions to the mental health of Canadians during the Canadian Psychiatric Association's 59th Annual Conference in St. John's. The following individuals were celebrated for their outstanding work:

- Dr. Thomas Ungar from North York, Ontario; CPA Paul Patterson Education Leadership Award
- Dr. Hany Bissada from Ottawa, Ontario; CPA C.A. Roberts Award for Clinical Leadership
- Dr. Allan Kaplan from Toronto, Ontario; CPA J.M. Cleghorn Award for Excellence and Leadership in Clinical Research
- Dr. Scott Patten from Calgary, Alberta; The Alex Leighton Joint CPA-Canadian Academy of Psychiatric Epidemiology Award in Psychiatric Epidemiology
- Dr. Nick Kates from Hamilton, Ontario; Association of Chairs of Psychiatry in Canada Award for Excellence in Education
- Dr. Aristotle Voineskos from Toronto, Ontario; Association of Chairs of Psychiatry in Canada Annual Research Award
- Dr. Cynthia Baxter from the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Service for Telemental Health Education, Joint CPA-Council of Psychiatric Continuing Education Award for the most outstanding continuing education activity in psychiatry in Canada, rural/community setting
- Dr. Martha Donnelly from Vancouver, British Columbia; Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry Award for Outstanding Contributions to Geriatric Psychiatry
- Dr. Kenneth Le Claire from Kingston, Ontario ; Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Geriatric Psychiatry
- Dr. Gary Rodin from Toronto, Ontario; Inaugural Canadian Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine Distinguished Member Award
- Dr. Safa Elgamal from Waterloo, Ontario; R.O. Jones Award for Best Paper at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 1st place
- Mr. Jeff Kelland from St. John's, Newfoundland; R.O. Jones Award for Best Paper at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 2nd place
- Ms. Adrienne Einarson from Toronto, Ontario; R.O. Jones Award for Best Paper at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 3rd place
- Dr. Valerie Taylor from Burlington, ON; Best Poster at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 1st place
- Dr. Angela Bowen from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Best Poster at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 2nd place
- Dr. Joann McIIwrick from Calgary, Alberta; Best Poster at the 2009 CPA Annual Conference, 3rd place
- Mr. Alexander McGirr from Toronto, Ontario; Coordinators of Undergraduate Psychiatric Education Best Paper Award for Medical Students
- Dr. Ajmal Razmy and Dr. Nick Grujich from Toronto, Ontario; Council of Psychiatric Education Resident Award for Best Paper by a Psychiatry Resident
- Dr. Isabelle Michaud from Montréal, Quebec; COPCE Award for Best Paper by a Psychiatry Resident
- Dr. Donna Stewart from Toronto, Ontario; President's Commendation
- The members of the joint College of Family Physicians and CPA Shared Care Working Group; President's Commendation
- Dr. Richard O'Reilly from London, Ontario; President's Commendation
- Dr. Sonu Gaind from Toronto, Ontario; President's Commendation
- Dr. Douglas Weir from Toronto, Ontario; President's Commendation
- Dr. Robert Buckingham from Toronto, Ontario; President's Commendation
- Senator Michael Kirby; honorary CPA membership

Also, this weekend, the honour of Fellow of the CPA was bestowed upon nine CPA member psychiatrists in recognition of their exemplary contributions towards excellence in psychiatry. The CPA's 2009 Fellows are: Dr. Joseph Joel Jeffries; Dr. Donald A. Wasylenski; Dr. Gary Hnatko; Dr. Raymond Lam; Dr. Phillippa Moss; Dr. Margaret Steele; Dr. Dhanapal Natarajan; Dr. Deborah Elliott; and Dr. David Goldbloom.
