ASHP's Online Quality Improvement Resource Center Offers New Tools

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has added a number of tools and resources to a dynamic, online reference that assists hospital and health-system pharmacists in taking a leadership role in efforts to improve the quality of medication use within their institutions.
The ASHP Quality Improvement Resource Center features a host of quality improvement resources, including a primer on basic concepts and fundamental principles, links to state and national quality initiatives and measures required by the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services and the Joint Commission.
Additions to the site include:
- A comprehensive strategic planning tool for managers to assist in developing quality improvement action plans.
- Information on upcoming webinars and archived copies of previously presented webinars
- Podcasts and audiofiles that offer strategies for implementing quality improvement initiatives,
- "Virtual" poster presentations featuring successes in implementing quality initiatives,
- Updated leaning module for assist members in learning about quality improvement, and
- Issue briefs on current quality improvement issues,.
Visitors to the site can also register to receive regular updates on new and emerging quality improvement issues and to get advance notice of updates to the web site.
The site is the centerpiece of a comprehensive three-year quality improvement initiative that will more actively engage pharmacists in improving the quality of medication use through adherence to nationally accepted quality indicators. The three-year initiative is being coordinated by ASHP with support by sanofi-aventis.
