New network will give practice managers a much stronger voice to influence policy and promote excellence and best practice in primary care, says the NHS Alliance.

The NHS Practice Management Network (PMN) is run by practice managers, for practice managers. It will serve as platform for practice managers to influence the development of policy, promote and share best practice and create a support network locally as well as nationally. Over 2000 practice managers have already joined the network and the aim is to bring together all practice managers in the country.

The network is a partnership between the NHS Alliance, National Association of Primary Care, Royal College of General Practitioners, AMSPAR, the British Medical Association, the Family Doctors Association and the Institute of Healthcare Management.

Wendy Evans, NHS Alliance Practice Manager Lead, said: "When we talk about the NHS, we tend to forget that practice managers have a key role to play in promoting excellence in primary care. They should be involved and consulted in every step of policy making and service delivery. The network will redress the balance and empower practice managers to influence what's going on around them."

Registration is free and members have access to range of publications, case studies, discussion forums and resources, including Improving access, responding to patients: a 'how-to' guide for GP practices guide.
