The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain has appointed Damian Day to the position of Head of Education and Quality Assurance in the Society's Regulation Directorate. Damian, who takes up his new role from 1 September 2009, will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and policies for education and quality assurance for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support staff.
The newly created position forms part of a wider restructuring of the Society's Regulation Directorate to ensure that the appropriate structures and processes are in place as it prepares for the future transfer of the Society's regulatory functions to the General Pharmaceutical Council in 2010.
Damian joined the Society in 2005 as Head of Accreditation. Prior to this Damian spent 15 years in academia working in various universities across the UK as an undergraduate and postgraduate lecturer, programme convener and educational developer. He has also worked for the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) as a subject review/institutional auditor, and since working at the Society has continued to contribute to the work of the QAA on a number of national and international projects. Until recently, Damian was also a postgraduate external examiner at City University.
Wendy Harris, the Society's Deputy Registrar & Director of Regulation said: "We are delighted that Damian has accepted this new position. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience which will be critical during this transitional period as the Society moves towards the transfer of its regulatory functions."
Damian will lead a team of 18 and will report directly to Wendy Harris.
