In today's age many people are looking to herbal remedies as a natural and alternative form of medication to relieve illnesses and maintain good health, but various EU guidelines make it very difficult to register a traditional herbal medicinal product (THMP) in Europe.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) will host a masterclass providing practical advice on registering a THMP on Friday 13 November 2009 at the RPSGB London headquarters.

Bringing together a host of professionals within the herbal medicines sector and the regulators at the health authority, the event will aim to provide advice on a practical level to those registering a THMP and share to delegates the experience of the UK MHRA in the assessment of applications. The programme is designed by the authors of 'A Practical Guide to Licensing Herbal Medicinal Products - a recently launched PhP publication'.

Peter Bradley, Conference Chair and a Director of the British Herbal Medicine Association (BHMA) said: "With more and more people looking to alternative remedies, the demand for herbal medicines is on the increase, yet the process to register herbal medicines to meet this demand is a long and difficult one. We are pleased that the RPSGB is hosting this event which will provide practical guidance for those within the herbal medicine sector to understand and comply with the Traditional Herbal Medicines Registration Scheme (THMRS), as required by Directive 2004/24/EC on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products."

The event will also include interactive workshop sessions to allow delegates the opportunity to interact with speakers in smaller masterclasses and raise specific questions in a less formal setting.
