The Alabama Department of Public Health has been notified about the death of a woman in her 50s who resides in Dale County. Specimens showed she tested positive for 2009 H1N1 influenza.

The widespread incidence of 2009 H1N1 influenza in Alabama and the eight known deaths in the state serve as reminder of the need for everyone to take steps to prevent transmission of disease and to be immunized for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza when vaccine becomes available.
