Dr Chris Mitchell, President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), presented the Alan Chancellor Award and the RACGP & National Asthma Council Award at GP'09 - The Conference for General Practice - on Sunday, 4 October in Perth .
2009 Alan Chancellor Award winner:
- Dr Faline Howes, TAS - Barriers to the optimal management of hypertension in primary care
The Alan Chancellor award is presented each year to the best first-time presenter of a research paper at our annual conference. The winner receives $500 and an engraved medallion. The prize is awarded in memory of Dr Alan Chancellor.
Dr Alan Chancellor, who passed away in 1996, donated this award in 1990 for new research in the field of general practice. A recipient of the Rose Hunt Award for a lifetime of service to the college, Dr Chancellor was Chairman of the National Research Committee, a founding supervisor of the RACGP Training Program and a foundation member of the College Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee.
2009 RACGP & National Asthma Council Award winner:
- Dr James Turton, ACT - Can the inhaled mannitol challenge test be successfully used to improve asthma management in the general practice setting?
The RACGP and National Asthma Research Award is awarded annually by the National Asthma Council to the best presenter of an asthma related abstract or poster at the RACGP annual conference. The award is to the value of $500.
All RACGP Research Foundation grant and award applications were carefully scrutinised by the National Research Awards Committees with recommendations from the Chairs of these committees, Professor Peter Mudge and Dr Tania Winzenberg.
