The Medicare Rights Center will honor Drew Altman, President and CEO of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, and Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, at its 20th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, October 14, at 6:00 pm.
The Medicare Rights Center is an independent, national nonprofit consumer service organization that over the past 20 years has worked to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults, people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives.
"Our 20th Anniversary Celebration is a wonderful opportunity to take stock of all that the Medicare Rights Center has accomplished, energize us for the work ahead and honor those that have helped make our work possible," said Joseph Baker, president of the Medicare Rights Center.
Perri Peltz, former co-anchor at WNBC News, will serve as emcee. The Honorary Chairs for the evening are Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Charles Rangel. Dinner Co-chairs include John P. Ahern, Joseph A. Califano, Jr., Karen Davis, Michael Fishman, Denis Hughes, Richard Iannuzzi, David Kessler, MD, Michael Mulgrew, David Satcher, MD, Donna Shalala, Andrew Stern, James Tallon and Randi Weingarten, among others.
All proceeds from the Celebration Dinner will go towards supporting the work of the Medicare Rights Center. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00, to be followed by dinner at 7:00 at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park.
Guests receiving special recognition at the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner are long-time hotline counselor Walter Bach and former president of Medicare Rights Center, Robert M. Hayes.
