Andrew Harrop, Head of Policy for Age Concern and Help the Aged, said:
'Age-related illness affects millions of people every year and the current care system is creaking at the seams, so it's no wonder that people are worried about getting older.
'With one month left to go of the Big Care Debate consultation, the Government must do more to look at the whole spectrum of problems in our crumbling care system. Disappointingly, the proposals outlined in the care and support Green Paper do not give detail of how the quality of care will be improved or how help will be given to those who currently miss out.
'The next Government must implement comprehensive reforms that improve the quality and accessibility of care for all those who need it, including the poorest older people who will not be able to afford to pay their own care costs.'
Notes
Age Concern England and Help the Aged have joined together to form a single charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people.
