Metastatic Prostate Cancer: New Studies Indicate Improvement with PC Hope

Two new studies indicate that for men with prostate cancer, PC Hope is associated with significant improvements in quality of life, reductions in patients' pain rating, and a decline in PSA levels without major side effects.

The two prostate cancer studies led in by Dr U. Kratzer of the Urology Clinic in Trostberg, Germany, and Dr. B. Pfeifer of the Aeskulap Cancer Center in Brunnen, Switzerland, conclude that the herbal blend in PC Hope significantly reduces PSA and pain of metastatic disease, thereby improving quality of life for prostate cancer patients without the detrimental side effects seen with other drug regimens.

The first study, initiated in December 2001, evaluated a total of 84 men between the ages of 56 and 75 with ablation-resistant metastatic prostate cancer for possible toxic and beneficial effects from using the PC Hope formulation. The men received supplemental treatment with PC Hope formulation (2700 mg daily for the first month, 1800mg daily for the second month, 1200 mg daily in the third month, and between 900 to 1200 mg from the fourth month on) for a total follow-up of 16 months. Hormonal therapy was continued throughout the trial to avoid the known withdrawal effect of anti-androgen on PSA. The study revealed that 60% of the 84 prostate cancer patients reported improvement of at least 30% in their overall daily functioning.

A second study, aimed at determining clinical efficacy and side effect profile of the PC Hope formulation intake, was evaluated prospectively utilizing prostate cancer patient questionnaires, physician-patient interviews, and laboratory data analysis during a 12 month follow-up period of 178 men between the ages of 52 and 75. About half of the study patients (88) had undergone radical prostatectomy as initial treatment for their prostate cancer followed by hormone ablative therapy upon recurrence of their disease or metastasis. Slightly more than one quarter of the prostate cancer patients (46) had prior external radiation therapy followed by hormone ablative therapy, and the remainder of the prostate cancer patients (44) underwent either surgical or chemical castration as their initial therapy.

The study indicated that about two-thirds of the hormone refractory prostate cancer patients responded with a greater than 50% reduction in their serum PSA levels. Furthermore, at least 20% responded not only with a durable PSA decline under the PC Hope formulation therapy, but also showed evidence of decreasing volume of primary prostate cancer and metastases. Although research revealed about 20% of the prostate cancer patients reported a slight increase of the breasts, in particular at the higher dosage of the PC Hope formulation during the first two months of the study, the breast enlargement was usually reversible during the remainder of the study period when a lower maintenance dosage of the PC Hope formulation was administered.

Patients with hormone refractory prostate cancer are reported to have a median survival of six to twelve months, experts say.
