The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research and Genentech, Inc. honored Nancy Hanagan, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA), with the Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2009 HDMA Annual Leadership Forum in Orlando, Florida. The Nexus award, the healthcare distribution industry's highest honor, recognizes leadership, exemplary service and professional excellence in the healthcare industry and in the community.
Hanagan has dedicated more than 25 years of service to HDMA and the healthcare distribution industry at large. She joined the association in 1984 as Vice President of Administration; in 1996, she was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President and was named Executive Vice President and COO in 1999. She is widely credited for shaping HDMA's role as the voice of primary healthcare distributors. She also was lauded for her involvement in many of the organization's strategic milestones, including its renaming and rebranding; its increased focus on state and federal government affairs; its efforts to establish deeper ties with a wide range of supply chain leaders; and efforts to educate policymakers and the public about the role HDMA's primary healthcare distributors serve in delivering high-quality healthcare to millions of patients every day.
"It is difficult to think of a more deserving recipient of this award than Nancy," said John M. Gray, HDMA President and CEO. "She has demonstrated time and time again her ability to lead an organization through good years and lean years. There are few association leaders in Washington who can match her combination of charisma, vision and people skills. She has left a lasting imprint on the distribution industry that I believe few others would, or could."
Hanagan holds a degree in anthropology from the University of Buffalo. Prior to coming to HDMA, she worked for a variety of trade associations in the Washington region, including the Electronic Industries Alliance, the American Trucking Association and the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors. She will retire from HDMA at the end of 2009 after more than 25 years of service to the organization and the industry.
"The Center and Genentech, Inc. are delighted to recognize Nancy for all that she has done for HDMA and for the community," said Karen Ribler, Executive Vice President and COO, Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research. "Her career accomplishments are a testament to the principles of leadership and excellence. They resonate with the achievements of so many past winners, whose dedication and service define the tradition and prestige that the Nexus award signifies."
