I am deeply saddened by the murderous assault on humanitarian staff in Kabul and the lives that have been lost today following the brutal bomb blast in Peshawar.
Our thoughts are with the families of those killed and injured in the attacks, as well as with our colleagues at partner agencies in Afghanistan who must now find the strength to carry forward the crucial work of the United Nations.
Tragically, this is the second such attack this month on the United Nations family. We are still recovering from the brutal attack on WFP's office in Islamabad on October 5, which killed five dedicated WFP staff and critically injured others.
Humanitarian workers around the world are committed to helping people - regardless of their religion, culture, or political beliefs - to build better lives for generations to come. We must continue to carry out our humanitarian work and mandate.
