As part of its continuing effort to improve and expand its role in strategic advocacy, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has hired Stephanie Fisher as grassroots coordinator.
Fisher is one of two members of the AVMA Communications Division who work at the AVMA Governmental Relations Division offices in Washington, D.C. She will be coordinating the AVMA Congressional Advocacy Network (CAN) and other grassroots efforts in support of the veterinary profession. This will include recruiting AVMA members to participate in the AVMA-CAN and providing them with up-to-date information and reports. She'll also be working to expand AVMA's outreach through social media, including Facebook.
"I'm thrilled to join the AVMA as grassroots coordinator and look forward to working with everyone here in Washington, D.C., as well as at the association headquarters," Fisher explains. "I will be working with the whole Communications Division team to further the goals of the association by continuing to strengthen our online presence and building up our grassroots outreach."
Fisher has extensive experience working in social media. She comes to the AVMA after completing a paid internship with the Software and Information Industry Association. Previously, she worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the New Zealand Writer's Guild and for the Social Times, a social media research and tracking publication.
"Stephanie is a social media aficionado, and we will make great use of her interactive media and member services skills to advance our federal advocacy and legislative goals," explains J. B. Hancock, director of the AVMA Communications Division. "I'm very excited to add her to our staff because her experience will help the AVMA Communications Division keep up with the rapid changes happening in social media."
Fisher graduated from American University in 2008 with a bachelor's in communications and political science.
