Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) is pleased to announce that the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) has appointed Betty Ferrell, PhD, MA, FAAN, FPCN, as the new editor of The Journal of Hospice & Palliative Nursing. LWW is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy.

"Dr. Ferrell is a leading authority on palliative care and pain management and we are honored to have her service in this critical role," said Judy Lentz, RN, MSN, NHA, CEO of HPNA. With more than 32 years of oncology nursing experience, Dr. Ferrell has focused her clinical expertise and research in pain management, quality of life, and palliative care. She is a Professor and Research Scientist at the City of Hope National Medical Center, Duarte, CA, a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a member of the National Cancer Policy Forum and chairperson of the National Consensus Project for Quality Palliative Care.

Dr. Ferrell has over 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals and texts, and has authored five books on pain management and palliative care. She is principal investigator of a study funded by the National Cancer Institute on "Barriers to Pain and Fatigue Management" and principal investigator of the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project. She directs several other funded projects related to end-of-life care and QOL issues in cancer survivors.
