Leyla Hannbeck has been appointed Head of Information at the National Pharmacy Association (NPA). Leyla joins the NPA on Monday 4 January 2010 from Eilbeck J F Chemist, Co. Durham where she worked as pharmacy manager for the group.
Before moving to the independent sector, Leyla worked for Alliance Boots for 5 years starting as a Pharmacist Branch Manager in their Gateshead Branch. She was promoted to District Manager coaching the pharmacists and branch teams across 16 pharmacies and then to area pharmacist, which involved multisite management developing community pharmacies across Northumberland and Newcastle.
While at Eilbeck J F Chemist, Leyla was a member of the local LPC and built a good relationship with the local PCT, care home managers, practice managers and GPs. Leyla has also developed new and existing health services for the North East based pharmacy chain.
Leyla Hannbeck NPA Head of Information said: "The National Pharmacy Association's Information department is the first port of call for many members looking for answers on pharmacy practice related questions covering areas such as drug information, NHS matters and law and ethics. The department provides information, reassurance and support and handles in excess of 14,000 calls a month. I am delighted to be joining a team who provide such an excellent and much needed service to community pharmacy."
Notes
Leyla is a Finnish national and started her career in Finland before moving to Sweden where she worked for the Information provider, Apoteket AB, as a Medical Advisor, providing advice to both members of the public and healthcare professionals.
Leyla was educated in Finland and received her Bachelor degree in Pharmaceutical Science at University in Turku, Finland; received her Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Science in Uppsala University, Sweden; and is currently studying part time for her PhD at the Department of Pharmacy Law and Practice at the University of Sunderland. In addition to English and her native language, Swedish, Leyla also speaks Finnish, French and German.
