Mach One Corporation (OTCBB: MNCN), a rapidly growing, innovative, global wellness solutions company, announced today that it has completed the first tranche of its investment in PanTheryx, Inc., as stipulated in a recent Letter of Understanding signed in August 2009. This action expedites development and introduction plans for an orally administered antibody therapeutic for treatment of pediatric diarrhea. The co-developed pediatric diarrhea product will initially be targeted for commercial introduction in India, where PanTheryx maintains a sales force and contract sales relationships.
Pediatric diarrhea is an enormous problem in much of the developing world, and particularly in India. Currently, pediatric diarrhea is India's second largest killer of children between the ages of birth to adolescence, with an estimated 1.4 million children dying each year from this illness. The most recent United Nations Human Development report shows India having one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world with Save the Children reporting that one infant dies every 15 seconds in India - 90% of these deaths due to preventable diseases, such as diarrhea. And according to UNICEF, worldwide, diarrhea kills more children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. This health issue is of ever-increasing concern for global and public health organizations ranging from the World Health Organization to the Gates Foundation.
"Such overwhelming statistics, and the growing global emphasis on this increasing health challenge are creating very large public and private sector markets for innovative solutions. PanTheryx and Mach One are leveraging our combined resources, expertise and technology to expedite concerted plans to develop and bring to market a unique health solution that can have a significant and wide spread impact on the improved health and wellness of India's children," says Tim Starzl, CEO, PanTheryx, Inc.
Current analysis shows that there are market and technology gaps in the forms of existing medical treatment for pediatric diarrhea used in the developing world. Tad Ballantyne, CEO, Mach One said, "The mutual goal for Mach One and PanTheryx is to help address this enormous health issue. Through our combined efforts both companies expect to establish a significant presence in the emerging orally administered segment of the therapeutic antibody sector. Mach One expects to continue to grow as a new source for medical innovation with effective products that can have sustainable therapeutic and commercial advantages globally."
