Alexander P. Moya, M.D., Director of the Center for Weight Loss Body Contouring and Assistant Director of the Geisinger Center for Aesthetics and Cosmetic Surgery at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), will deliver an interactive video presentation on his corset trunkplasty surgery in April 2010. This presentation will be made to a group of board-certified plastic surgeons at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's annual Aesthetic Meeting in Washington, D.C.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to share my procedure and findings with such a distinguished group of peers," Dr. Moya said.

Corset trunkplasty surgery removes excessive skin, typically from patients who have undergone bariatric weight loss surgery. The end result is comprehensive contouring of the abdominal region and waistline.

The procedure is performed entirely with Harmonic ™ (Ethicon Endo-Surgery) ultrasonic technology, which decreases surrounding tissue injury and blood loss, thereby resulting in improved recovery with less swelling and pain. Using this new body contouring approach, Dr. Moya can address many issues in one surgery that used to take multiple operative stages to resolve.

Dr. Moya developed the corset trunkplasty procedure, and is currently the only physician in the country to regularly perform the surgery.

"Body contouring surgery has evolved rapidly in recent years, and there are many new surgical procedures and questions that physicians face," said Dr. Moya. "At Geisinger, we strive to be pioneers in the field, and I am proud to be able to share our knowledge with physicians nationally and even internationally."

Dr. Moya, who recently demonstrated his surgery live via teleconference to a group of peers at the University of Miami School of Medicine, currently has five advanced body contouring courses scheduled at GMC in 2010, some or all of which may be televised to private audiences. He also travels throughout the country to present and educate other plastic surgeons at national conferences.
