Synexus in Poland organised the first 'Importance of Clinical Trials in Medical Practice' conference last week, in conjunction with Wroclaw Medical University. The event, targeting senior medical professionals, aimed to raise awareness of the role of clinical research in drug development and the importance of the business to Poland.

Radoslaw Janiak M.D, Synexus Country Manager in Poland, was delighted with the high turn out for the event, and with the level of interest amongst the medical academics and consultants who attended: "We had more than 250 people join us, including Professor Ryszard Andrzejak, Dean of Wroclaw Medical University, Professor Anna Wiela-Hojenska, Dean of the Pharmacy Faculty at Wroclaw Medical University, and Professor Andrzej Czlonkowski, Chief of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology Department, Warsaw Medical University. It is encouraging to see these individuals, who are key to the further development of the clinical trials sector here, taking the time to learn more about this area and the role they can play in its development. This is a real opportunity for Poland to be a world player."

Synexus has been operating in Poland since 2006 and expanded its operations there in August this year when it acquired three new dedicated research centres in Warsaw, Gdynia and Katowice, following its takeover of CLCC.

Synexus has expanded its operations in Central and Eastern Europe to 16 dedicated research centres across Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria and Ukraine, and is working to raise the profile of the clinical trials sector with medical and academic bodies, to secure their future involvement and to drive sustained and competitive growth in the region. Synexus has changed the traditional model for conducting clinical trials from individual sites, often with only one investigator, to its own dedicated research centres, staffed by full-time, professional investigators, focussing solely on the recruitment and running of clinical trials.
