Submissions are now being accepted for the 4th Annual Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Awards, presented by the American Urological Association (AUA). The awards, established in 2007 to recognize outstanding news coverage of urologic disease topics, will be presented at the 2010 AUA Annual Scientific Meeting in San Francisco, CA, May 29-June 3, 2010.
The awards are designed to honor journalists in both trade and consumer media outlets for responsible, informative reporting on health topics in urology. Awards are given annually in the following categories: Consumer Print Publications, Consumer Electronic Publications and Trade Publications. Applicants may submit their own work, or be nominated. Awardees will receive a stipend and an award.
"Solid reporting on urologic topics can help shed light on often-embarrassing conditions and inspire patients to seek the treatment they need for an improved quality of life," said Anthony Y. Smith, MD, chair of the AUA Public Media Committee and clinical professor of urology at the University of New Mexico. "It is important that we honor journalists who have presented urologic healthcare to their readers in an accurate, informative and thoughtful manner."
Submissions for the 2010 awards will be accepted through Friday, February 19, 2010. All materials must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009. All submissions should include a cover letter, contact information for both the nominee and submitter (if applicable), and five copies of the submission (for electronic media, please submit individual CD-ROMS; for print media, please limit to 8.5x11 format). All entries must be received by close of business on Friday, February 19, 2010.
Submissions should be mailed to:
AUA Communications Office
ATTN: Reporting Award
1000 Corporate Blvd.
Linthicum, MD 21090
All entries will be judged by a committee of urologists on accuracy, completeness and public impact. Awardees will be contacted by the end of March by phone and in writing. Decisions of the committee are final.
