Alexis Willett, head of Policy at Breakthrough Breast Cancer says:
"These statistics show just how essential regular breast screening is at detecting cancer early when treatment is likely to be more successful. It is concerning however that the uptake of screening appointments across England varies widely - in particular there parts of London where the number of women attending their screening appointments falls well below the government's target of 70%.
"In the run-up to the General Election Breakthrough Breast Cancer are calling for all political parties to commit to continued investment in the screening programme to ensure that all eligible women can access this important service."
