Victor G. Vogel, MD, MHS, Named Director Of Cancer Services At Geisinger

Victor G. Vogel, M.D., M.H.S., National Vice President for Research at the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia, has been named Director of Cancer Services at Geisinger Health System. He will begin his new duties on May 3.
"The people we serve throughout central and northeast Pennsylvania will benefit immensely from Dr. Vogel's impressive credentials and expertise," said Geisinger President and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Steele, Jr., M.D., PhD. "He has a proven track record of exceptional accomplishment in cancer prevention, treatment and research, and we look forward to his leading our cancer services at Geisinger."
In addition to his association with the American Cancer Society, Dr. Vogel has been affiliated with many of the nation's top cancer programs and medical institutions, including serving as Vice Chair of the Institutional Review Board at the University of Pittsburgh; Director of the Magee/University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute & The Magee-Women's Hospital Comprehensive Breast Program; Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; Deputy Chairman and Associate Professor of Clinical Cancer Prevention at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Texas School of Public Health; and worked with the Division of Cancer Prevention, National Cancer Institute Breast and Gynecologic Cancer Research Group.
A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore with a bachelor degree in natural science, Dr. Vogel earned his medical degree at the Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia and a master of health science degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Baltimore City Hospitals, and then served as a fellow in medical oncology at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center and an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Clinical Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.
Board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and preventive medicine, Dr. Vogel was honored in 2008 with the National Consortium of Breast Centers Impact Award for Outstanding Dedication and Exceptional Accomplishments in the fight against breast cancer. He has been named numerous times to the Best Doctors in America, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World, and was presented the Award for Distinguished Research Achievements by the Pennsylvania Division of the American Cancer Society in 2003. A Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and the American College of Physicians, and a Research Fellow of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Dr. Vogel was the Founding President of the International Society of Cancer Risk Assessment and Management. An accomplished writer and editor, he has published numerous professional articles and serves on the editorial boards and as a reviewer of several prestigious publications including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Clinical Oncology, The Journal of the American Medical Association, The American Journal of Medicine, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, and The Breast Journal.
