Judith S. Palfrey, MD, FAAP, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), made a statement in support of finishing the job on health reform at an event today on Capitol Hill hosted by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Leadership from MomsRising.org, the Children's Defense Fund, Voices for America's Children and First Focus were also in attendance.

The following statement can be attributed to Dr. Palfrey: "The American Academy of Pediatrics-a non-profit professional organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults-is pleased to stand here today alongside Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other child health advocates to urge Congress to finish the job on health reform.

"The Academy supports the process of health reform because health reform will help children and pediatricians. The Academy's highest priorities in health reform continue to be: coverage for all children in the United States, age-appropriate benefits in a medical home, and appropriate workforce improvements and payment rates to allow real access to covered services.

"We are hopeful that our nation's lawmakers will continue to prioritize the needs of children and pediatricians in health reform legislation. Let's finish the job on health reform."
