Claude Allen's selection as the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy is a loss for the Department of Health and Human Services, but it is clearly a tremendous gain for America. As the Deputy Secretary at HHS, he has served America as a compassionate leader and champion for prevention of disease and promotion of better health for all Americans. His willingness to confront the most challenging health and human issues, such as HIV/AIDS, healthy family formation, and human trafficking, has made America and the world better places.
Claude's many contributions as Deputy Secretary include his commitment to the development of improved polices to remove barriers to equality that Americans with disabilities face, his program and policy coordination of HHS services for the homeless, and his strengthening of tribal health care. Through these efforts, he has provided our country an exemplary level of leadership that will ensure a healthier future for generations to come.
The President is fortunate to have Claude join him in coordinating the domestic policy-making process in the White House and the federal agencies. I know that Claude will be a dynamic and compassionate leader in developing and promoting effective domestic policies for all Americans.
I congratulate Claude for all that he has accomplished and I wish him continued success.
