Plaid Cymru's Shadow Health Minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM said that a holistic approach is needed from the Labour Assembly Government to tackle the issue of the hospital superbug MRSA.
The Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales AM speaking ahead of a hospital hygiene meeting in London on Thursday 13th January said:
"If we are going to address the issue of MRSA and other similar infections we must have a holistic approach to the cleaning and maintenance of buildings within the health service. Clearly contracting out services mean Health Trusts lose control of cleaning standards and procedures. Contracting out also runs the risk of cuts in the number of hospital cleaning staff.
The spread of the incidence of MRSA and other infections is developing into a major problem for the Government of Wales. The Labour Assembly Government needs to ensure that Trusts throughout Wales are in a position to ensure every precaution is taken."
