The implications of the 2004 Presidential election on health policy, the future of entitlement programs, the promise and pitfalls of consumer-driven health plans, and early experiences of prescription drug discount cards - how will these critical issues influence the nation's health policy agenda in 2005?

The National Health Policy Conference, sponsored by AcademyHealth and the journal "Health Affairs", provides an in-depth look at the health policy issues facing the country and the challenges to finding solutions. Federal and state officials, health care scholars, business leaders, and commentators will debate and discuss major health policy concerns, including Medicare coverage decisions, malpractice reform and child health policy issues such as SCHIP reauthorization and the child obesity epidemic.

Speakers include:

-- Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D-Kan.)

-- David Brailer, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology

-- Mark McClellan, Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

-- Glenna Crooks, Strategic Health Policy International

-- Susan Dentzer, "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer"

-- Key congressional staff including Dean Rosen, Office of the Senate Majority Leader; Elizabeth Fowler, Mark Hayes, and Becky Shipp of the Senate Finance Committee; Bridgette Taylor, House Energy and Commerce (minority); Joel White, House Ways & Means Committee (majority)

Details and agenda for the conference are available at academyhealth.org/nhpc/agenda.htm.
