Tokyo (JCNN) - Konica Minolta announced January 24 that it will launch the Konica Minolta PCM System, a digital X-ray mammography system, early in February.

Based on the company's proprietary phase-contrast technique Phase Contrast Mammography, the new system provides a high level of performance and image quality in digital mammography. It can create clear images of the breast structure, tumor mass and microcalcification.

The system consists of four devices: X-ray mammography system Mermaid, image scanner REGIUS Vstage MODEL 190, image processing console CS-3, and image writer DRYPRO MODEL 793. The standard system sells for 60 million yen ($600,000).
