Springer will publish the Journal of NeuroVirology (JNV), a bi-monthly publication closely affiliated with the International Society for NeuroVirology. Previously published by Taylor & Francis/Informa, the five-year contract with Springer runs to 2015.

The Journal of NeuroVirology publishes high-quality basic science and clinical studies on the molecular biology and pathogenesis of viral infections of the nervous system, and reports on the development of novel therapeutic strategies using neurotropic viral vectors. The journal also focuses on articles covering non-viral infections that affect the central nervous system. Original research articles, reviews, case reports and coverage of scientific meetings are included. The editor-in-chief is Professor Kamel Khalili, Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, USA.

Ann Avouris, Senior Editor of Neuroscience at Springer, said, "The journal brings additional content for Springer's neuroscience portfolio in an area that is currently not covered. The subject is growing in interest, with new studies being published on neuroAIDS, viruses and neurodegeneration, and transmissible encephalopathies. Springer will be able to help grow the society, and support them in accomplishing their mission."

Professor Khalili said, "Since its inception in 1995, JNV has provided a unique platform for cross communication between basic scientists and clinican researchers studying viral disorders of the nervous system. We're excited about our new partnership and will work closely with Springer to continue advancing the field of neurovirology and infections of the nervous system as a whole."

The International Society for NeuroVirology is a non-profit corporation established in 1998 as an international forum for researchers and clinical scientists involved in the study of neurovirology. The purpose of the society is to advance collaboration among scientists in all aspects of neurovirology and related disciplines in order to further knowledge in the area, and promote the clinical application of this knowledge.
