Cancer patients at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center, located on the Gottlieb Memorial Hospital campus, are now being seen by Loyola University Health System physicians.
Loyola Cancer Care & Research at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center offers patients the convenience of a community hospital and the expertise of a world-class university hospital.
"This partnership symbolizes the best of what Gottlieb and Loyola can achieve together," said Trisha Cassidy, president of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. "Our patients will remain in the community and will be treated by physicians who are on the staff at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. But they also will have seamless access to the cutting-edge clinical research trials and subspecialty care available at Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center."
Dr. Patrick Stiff, director of Loyola's Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, is the new Chairman of Oncology at Gottlieb. Dr. David Rosi, Medical Director of the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center, now is also a full-time faculty member of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Rosi will be joined by two other Loyola faculty members, Dr. Danielle Shafer and Dr. Elise Anderes. Gottlieb physicians Dr. Manatosh Banerji and Dr. Ryan Engel will remain in the Weinberg center on a part-time basis and be part-time faculty members at Loyola.
In coming months, patients at the Marjorie G. Weinberg Cancer Center will have access to a full spectrum of Loyola cancer clinical trials. Loyola is a member of the Southwest Oncology Group, one of the largest cancer clinical research co-operatives in the United States. The Southwest Oncology Group, funded largely by the National Cancer Institute, conducts clinical trials to prevent and treat cancer and to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.
The center is named after the late Marjorie G. Weinberg, a long-time supporter of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital founders David and Dorothy Gottlieb, and mother of Jack Weinberg, chairman of the Gottlieb Memorial Foundation. Jack Weinberg also is a member of the Loyola University Health System board of directors and the recent recipient of Loyola's President's Medal for Distinguished Service.
"My mother would have been so proud that the cancer center that honors her is now part of Loyola," Weinberg said.
