Plaid Cymru's Shadow Health Minister Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM speaking after MRSA infection rates per hospital trust for 2002 - 2003 were revealed said:

"Now finally after a great deal of pressure we have a clearer picture of MRSA levels in Wales. According to official all Wales figures obtained by Plaid Cymru the incidence of MRSA has risen from 306 infections in 2002 -3 to 481 in 2003 -2004. This is a rise of 57 per cent. The Minister needs to clarify the position as the figures suggest that identified instances of MRSA in Wales have risen 306 to 481, an increase of 175.

The Health Minister must now set clear best practice guidelines for hospitals. In addition the Minister should consider setting clear targets for infection rate reduction as is happening in England. I will ask the Health Minister what is his intention regarding guidelines and targets of how to reduce MRSA infections."
