As of August 2010, Korean patients will be able to get surgery with a robotic assistant holding and moving the endoscope: ViKY®.
EndoControl, the French company specializing in advanced laparoscopy, and ASC Korea, its Korean distributor just got KFDA (Korean Food and Drug Administration) approval for the ViKY® robot.
After the success of ViKY® Endoscope Positioner in Europe and the US, EndoControl decided to open the Asian market by entering Korea, Taiwan and India for the first step.
After submitting the file to the KFDA in April 2010, ViKY® was registered as "Stereotaxic Unit, Navigation" on June 9th 2010. Finally, the sales license number was issued on August 4th 2010.
EndoControl and ASC Korea forecast many purchases by local hospitals in the next months.
ViKY® is a very simple compact robot which takes up no floor space (it is attached to the operating table). The robot is voice or foot controlled by the surgeon for more comfort and accuracy.
