The results of the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Research and Science (APhA-APRS) elections were certified by the APhA Committee of Canvassers. Academy members elected William E. Fassett, PhD, MBA, of Spokane, WA, as APhA-APRS Executive Council President-elect (2011-2012); Zia Shariat-Madar, PhD, of Oxford, MS, as Chair-elect for the Basic Sciences Section (2011-2012); Julie Oestreich, PharmD, PhD, of Omaha, NE, as Chair-elect in the Clinical Sciences Section (2011-2012); Marcia M. Worley, PhD, of  Duluth, MN, as Chair-elect for the Economic, Social and Administrative Sciences Section (2011-2012); and Matthew Witry, PharmD, RPh, of Iowa City, IA, as APhA-APRS Postgraduate Officer (2011-2013).

Fassett is Professor of Pharmacy Law and Ethics at Washington State University, and was Dean of the College of Pharmacy from 1999-2005. He also teaches a summer ethics course as part of the University of Florida's online MSPharm program. His scholarship concerns the interaction of law, policy and systems to assure patient safety and deliver desired outcomes of pharmaceutical care services. An APhA life-member, he serves on the JAPhA Editorial Advisory Board. He is Treasurer of the American Society for Pharmacy Law and is editor of its publications. Fassett also chairs the Law, Medicine & Ethics editorial panel for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy.

Shariat-Madar is an Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He received his MS degree from Central Michigan University, his PhD from the Medical University of Ohio and did his post-doctoral work at the University of Michigan. Madar was hired as a research investigator at the University of Michigan, Department of Hematology where he was promoted several times. After a career in research, he moved into academia to fulfill his desire for working with student pharmacists and his passion for pharmacology. 

Oestreich is Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy. She completed her PharmD degree at Ohio Northern University and her PhD degree and post-doctoral training at the University of Kentucky. Oestreich's research laboratory is focused on studying the variability of platelet function and response to antiplatelet agents, particularly clopidogrel and other P2Y12 receptor antagonists. Oestreich teaches pharmacogenetics and cardiovascular pharmacology to students and residents and serves as a volunteer pharmacist, most recently at Faith Pharmacy in Lexington, KY, and in Mexico.

Worley is an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota. She received her MS degree from The Ohio State University and PhD degree from the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on investigating pharmacist-patient relationships and patient medication use behaviors. It has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at professional meetings. Worley has received teaching awards at the University of Minnesota, where she is actively involved in professional and graduate education. She is engaged in service activities focused on graduate education, faculty mentoring and pharmacy organizations. 

Witry is a second-year graduate student in the pharmacy socioeconomics program at the University of Iowa. He received his PharmD degree from Iowa in 2008 and immediately started graduate work. His work as a part-time pharmacist allows him to stay engaged with pharmacy practice, and helps shape his research interests. Upon completing his graduate education, he plans to seek a tenure-track faculty position at a research university to conduct research, work with students and contribute to the success of the PharmD and graduate programs.
