The Royal College of General Practitioners' (RCGP) has issued a new book exploring the changing face of family medicine and its impact on general practitioners.

Recent Advances in Primary Care, is co-edited by RCGP Chairman Mayur Lakhani and Dr Rodger Charlton. It aims to be a 'one stop' guide to the latest developments in the fast changing world of general practice. The compendium style book offers the most up-to-date information on new health care policies and initiatives, together with advice on moral principles and complex ethical dilemmas.

Featuring a range of experts and GPs, the book is broken down into fundamental areas of family medicine from pregnancy care and mental health to paediatrics and respiratory medicine. Also included is up-to-the-minute guidance on new treatments and emerging conditions based on the latest evidence, designed to provide busy GPs and their health teams with key information at their fingertips.

Mayur Lakhani, RCGP Chairman, said: 'As a practising GP I know how hard it can be to keep up-to-date with a generalist discipline. The pace of progress in primary care is breathtaking which is why being armed with the right knowledge can make the difference between an excellent outcome and a poor one. The purpose of this book is to offer a single source for busy GPs to easily access key advances as identified by experts in the field.'
