Welcoming the Target Paper from the Bow Group 'Delivering Enhanced Pharmacy Services in a Modern NHS: Improving Outcomes in Public Health and Long-Term Conditions', Chair of the English Pharmacy Board Lindsey Gilpin said:

"We are pleased to have submitted to this Bow Group research project. The Bow Group has a real presence amongst policy-makers and clearly understands how pharmacy can deliver benefits for patients in the future.

"We believe this report is a resounding vote of confidence in the value of pharmacy services provided.

"Pharmacists have a real contribution to make to improving public health outcomes, but commissioning of services is patchy. When local purchasers and providers work together to improve patient outcomes and care pathways, pharmacists have been able to deliver innovative, high-quality services of real benefit to local communities.

"The cost-effectiveness of services, combined with accessibility, means pharmacy has a vital role to play in improving public health and reducing health inequalities. We very much hope the new public health White Paper due out in October capitalises on all that pharmacy has to offer, for the benefit of both patients and the NHS."
