The Washington Post reports on the growing field of government health IT jobs.

"Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin is set to play a key role in expanding a national health information network, giving the company a potential head start in what is expected to be a booming health information technology industry.

As more opportunities become available in the coming months, the market for this type of health IT work is expected to become increasingly crowded, according to both companies and analysts. Lockheed Martin received contracts worth $9 million from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to help expand the Nationwide Health Information Network... The sector could be tremendously large, analysts say. Input, a firm that analyzes the government contracting market, projects that the market for federal health IT work -- including benefits and claims processing and the IT systems used by providers -- will reach about $5 billion annually in 2011 and 2012" (Censer, 9/27).
