A number of presentations and sessions at GP10 - the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian Association of Practice Managers (AAPM) combined annual conference - will focus on the importance of improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year, GP10 - Shape Our Future - will be held in Cairns, northern Queensland from 6-9 October at the Cairns Convention Centre.
The College will also take the opportunity to officially launch the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, which has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The College is delighted to announce that the Minister for Indigenous Health, The Hon Warren Snowdon, and Mick Gooda, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, will be attending this launch.

On Friday 8 October and Saturday 9 October there will be additional sessions on the following topics:
- Making the new Indigenous Practice Incentive Payment work for your patients - chaired by A/Prof Jenny Reath, Deputy Chair of the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- Working together to close the gap - chaired by Ms Mary Martin, Board Member of the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- How can the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health assist general practitioners and their practice teams to provide culturally safe health care? - chaired by Dr Libby Hindmarsh, Board Member of the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
RACGP outgoing President Dr Chris Mitchell said that GP10 will provide a valuable opportunity for delegates from across Australia to discuss and provide feedback on the role of the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, as well as the different ways of providing general practice healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and communities.
"The College is committed to working together with members and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and individuals to ensure general practice continues to be well placed to provide comprehensive, patient centred and holistic care," he said.
Professor Claire Jackson, RACGP President-elect said: "As President-elect of the College, I am committed to continuing the College's work to help close the gap. The College is keen on sharing knowledge and building networks with those people whose work has a positive impact on health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people."
GP10 also offers a range of other presentations and workshops on other themes of interest to general practice, including e-health, sports medicine, rural health, health promotion and the business of medicine.
