College Responds To Home Office Drug Strategy, UK

Responding to the new drug strategy published by the Home Office, Dr Owen Bowden-Jones, chair of the RCPsych's Faculty of Addictions, said:

"There is much to be welcomed in the new drug strategy. In particular, the Royal College of Psychiatrists applauds the renewed ambition for people with substance misuse problems to move through treatment and into sustained recovery, acknowledging that this journey will be different for each individual. Harm reduction is rightly seen as a crucial component, as is the focus on children, families and social reintegration.

"Accessible, high-quality treatment, based on sound evidence is vital in helping people with substance misuse problems fulfill their recovery potential. Addiction psychiatrists have a crucial role to play in leading this ambitious new agenda and look forward to working closely with Government to implement the key themes.
