Between 1996 and 1997, Canadians spent $2.8 billion on complementary and alternative medicine and natural health products.
Homeopathy is one of the more popular alternative therapies used in children.
In a new statement, the CPS Community Paediatrics Committee recommends that physicians be prepared to respond to parents' questions on homeopathy in an informed and nonjudgmental way.
It calls for more rigorous study on the efficacy of these treatments to determine whether they should be used in children.
