The Ministry of Health in Cambodia confirmed that an 8-year-old girl from Kampot province who died on 7 April, was the country's third case of avian influenza.

The girl became ill with a fever on the 29th March. Her condition deteriorated rapidly on 7 April, when she was taken to a district referral hospital and then transferred to Kuntha Bopha Hospital in Phnom Penh, where she died. Samples from the girl tested positive for avian influenza H5N1 virus at the Pasteur Institute, Phnom Penh.

A field investigation was conducted immediately, with team members from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, WHO, Pasteur Institute and FAO. Poultry deaths occurred in this village in February, but no poultry deaths occurred in the two weeks prior to the girl's onset of symptoms. Human-to-human transmission as a source of the girl's infection appears unlikely, as none of her known contacts were sick with similar symptoms before she became ill. Investigations as to the source of the girl's infection are continuing.

Samples were collected from four close contacts who cared for her at the village and nine medical contacts from Kampot and Phnom Penh. All have tested negative for the H5N1 virus.

The public education campaign in Banteay Meas and neighbouring districts is continuing. The recent funding from international donors will be crucial in helping Cambodia control this disease.

Bird Flu -- hot dry air.. silver.. elderberry

posted by jay dillon on 1 Nov 2005 at 6:10 pm

It's fine to continue the effort to develop a specific vaccine for Bird Flu, but what about techniques and methods that can be used at home to help moderate symptoms and save lives? There are three methods that I know of to help: the patient can inhale hot dry (clean, filtered) air (no smoke); this kills the viruses immediately. The hot dry air should be a temperature well above body temperature, but not dangerous temperature to inhale of course. Also: colloidal silver (charged microscopic particles of highest purity silver in distilled water, which can be produced at home for pennies per gallon using Robey Colloidal silver generator and similar devices available on the net at reasonable cost, or they can be constructed at home using highest purity silver and proper materials. The colloidal silver water can also be given to livestock, poultry, and will save the animals and birds if given in proper concentration about 40 ppm, (best on empty stomach). Also, Elderberry syrup and lozenges made with European Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) which is extremely effective in stopping viruses according to recent medical research in Israel. These methods need to be publicized immediately if you can find the needed verifications. I believe these are all the very best methods available today to stop any virus. Please investigate these topics at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your consideration.
