Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital has been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark for its cancer-care facilities. The Quality Mark, granted by the UK's leading cancer support charity, recognises the high level of care provided by Nuffield Health Cambridge

The Macmillan Quality Environment Mark is a detailed framework for assessing whether facilities meet the standards required by people living with cancer. It is the first assessment tool of its kind in the UK. The charity developed a charter so that when people visit an accredited facility, such as Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital and see the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark on display, they know what standards to expect like privacy, dignity, respect, patient choice, personal control and accessibility.

Maxine Estop, Hospital Director at Cambridge Hospital, said the award recognises the hospitals dedication to delivering a higher standard of cancer care in Cambridge. "Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital is committed to support patients living with cancer and that is why we undertook the accreditation to ensure we were delivering the best possible care in the right way. Based on feedback from staff and patients, we looked at how we could improve services and create an environment for those affected by cancer treatment. We are delighted that Macmillan has recognised our commitment by awarding us this prestigious quality mark".

Nuffield Health is the leading not-for-profit health provider in the UK and has invested significantly across its estate and in its services over that past few years, investing over £12 million in its hospital-based facilities in the last year alone and almost £200 million in the last five years. Over the coming months, it will also apply for accreditation with the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark at other hospital sites across the country.

Denise Cohn-Brown, Oncology Manager at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital, commented: "We recognise that providing a caring environment in which people feel comfortable and safe with their cancer treatment is fundamental. The philosophy of our service is to provide a high quality level of care with a holistic approach to total patient care in an environment in which patients and their carers feel comfortable and safe whilst undergoing cancer treatment".
